How to use this finder

The source material in Notion is organized more like an operator notebook than a formal standard. Some entries are strict acronyms. Others are internal shorthand, funding-program names, or billing language that show up in real fiber work. This version keeps that mix, but puts it into tables so you can scan it faster.

Core fiber acronyms

ARC	Arkansas Rural Connect: Provide grants to qualifying communities of at least 500 people to deploy high-speed broadband to its residents. The high-speed broadband must have a rate of at least 25 megabits per second for download and 3 megabits per second for upload (25/3).

DC	Data Center; where ISP servers live, often used interchangeably with CO.
DIA	Dedicated Internet Access

EMS	Element Management System; manages individual network elements or a specific vendor/device class, often feeding alarms and performance data northbound to an NMS.
EPC	Engineering, Procurement, and Construction firm.
EPON	Ethernet Passive Optical Network
FAT	Fiber Access Terminal
FC	Fixed Connection
FCAPS	Fault, Configuration, Accounting, Performance, Security
FCC	Federal Communications Commission; regulates telecommunications companies.
FDH	Fiber Distribution Hub
FDP	Fiber Distribution Panel
FECC	First Electric Cooperative Corporation; a key telecom provider in central Arkansas and a potential Strike customer.

Form 477	FCC data collection form that tracks broadband availability and adoption across the U.S.

OOB	Out of Band; using a secondary isolated path to control or monitor network infrastructure even if the main network is down.
OSS	Operations Support System; supports provisioning, fault resolution, service assurance, and customer operations using network state from systems such as the NMS.

Slack loop	Extra cable length reserved for future maintenance and repairs
Lashing	Attaching a fiber cable to a messenger wire using a spiral wrap
Pole line hardware	Strand clamps, guy wires, and brackets
Messenger Wire	Supports the fiber cable and maintains tension
Splicing Trailer	Climate-controlled portable workspace for splicing cables
OTDR	Optical Time Domain Reflectometer; related variants include OCCR and OCDR
Fusion Splicer	Tool that melts fiber on both sides of a connection and fuses it together
Dump Trailer	Functionally similar to a dump truck in field logistics
Reel Trailer	Trailer that carries the cable reel on an axle
Hand Hole	Below-ground box accessible by hand
Pothole or Test Hole	Small excavation used to expose buried infrastructure, confirm utility depth and location, and avoid damage during boring or trenching
Flowerpot	Weatherproof closure used on aerial cables to protect fiber splices and terminations
Aerial Deployment	Fiber or coaxial cable installed on existing utility poles; typically faster to deploy and easier to repair, but exposed to weather and pole-attachment constraints.
Underground Deployment	Fiber buried in trenches or conduit; usually more protected and durable, but slower and more expensive to permit and build.
Microtrenching	Narrow, shallow trenching method, often near a road edge or sidewalk, used to place fiber with less disruption than full trenching.
MDU Wiring	Multi-dwelling-unit wiring for apartments, condos, and mixed-use buildings, including vertical and horizontal cabling inside the property.

Cost Tracking	Monitoring labor, material, and subcontractor expense against budget or work-order expectations.
Quality and Safety	Logging inspections, incidents, compliance checks, and field evidence.
Mobile Access	Letting field workers update status, upload photos, and report issues from phones or tablets.
GIS and Mapping Integration	Visualizing fiber routes, assets, service areas, and dig context on a map.

Pedestals and access points

Recurring operational shorthand

These terms show up often in Slack, Notion cleanup, ECO discussions, and folder analysis. They are included here because they are interpretation aids, not because they form a complete glossary.

KCCI	Primary construction and operations context for these ECO, project-memory, and glossary requests.
FECC	First Electric Cooperative Corporation; recurring customer and data source in historical ECO folders.
CMR / MFR / FNOL	Provider-side initiating references for ECO intake; they should not be collapsed into the KCCI job ID.
WOA	Work Order Authorization; useful when Render or contractor agreements mention work-order authority.
RUS units	Billing and unit vocabulary that may appear as ATT Articles or rural-utility-standard units.
OSP / ISP	Ambiguous shorthand: Outside Plant vs. Inside Plant, while ISP can also mean Internet Service Provider.
Redline	As-built or corrected drawing evidence, not just a marked-up PDF.
Callout	Emergency or operational response; in this context often overlaps with ECO.
Work order	The operational and billing handle that ties field work, evidence, invoices, and project folders together.
Billing units	LF, EA, per-splice, per-day, and similar units are important context for invoices and cost analysis.
